"Agates are beautiful and interesting natural curiosities found throughout the world. This is a book about agates that are found in Minnesota and surrounding areas and named after Lake Superior. Agates are found in many different varieties with different appearances. The most common variety of agate is called banded agate and consists of concentric lines that sometimes are said to resemble a fortification. So banded agates are sometimes called fortification agates. However, in addition to banded agates there are other beautiful and interesting varieties that are generally described according to their appearance. So, there are tube agates, eye agates, moss agates, and other varieties in addition to the more common banded agates.
