Publisher's Synopsis

Thomas famously refused to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead until he could put his finger into the holes that had been made by the nails on the cross. Today, many people still demand proof before they'll accept that Jesus is divine, and so this book sets out to provide that evidence. It analyses events on the day of the crucifixion such as a period of three hours of darkness in the middle of the day which couldn't have been caused by an eclipse. The ancient historians Phlegon and Tertullian both wrote about this, as did the gospel writers, with Phlegon writing that stars could be seen in the sky. There was also an earthquake on the day of the crucifixion which was also described by Phlegon. The book shows that it was impossible for this darkness to have been caused by an eclipse in terms of astronomy, and that the probability of there being an eclipse and an earthquake on the same day would be 1 in 4.7 billion. The book analyses the crucifixion in detail and all the hypotheses that try to denounce the resurrection of Jesus. It's a fascinating read which takes in the historical setting at the time Jesus lived and the miracles that he worked, which were also described by Tertullian and Justin Martyr. The messianic prophecies about Jesus are covered, as is the Roman persecution of the early Church, the incredible story of the evolution of the Bible as we know it today and the source texts that were used, as well as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Faith doesn't have to be blind, and this book shows just how strongly our faith is underpinned by science.
