Publisher's Synopsis

Katherine Yorke's account of childhood in Attlebridge, Norfolk, is more than another nostalgic look at the old days. She was burdened with "problem parents" - a father who was too proud to take orders and a mother for whom "house-proudness" was the eighth deadly sin. They lived in primitive conditions in a railway carriage in the woods where Harry Yorke's many eccentricities could be freely exercised. These ranged from reciting poetry in the gravel-pit to building the "Wayfarers' Hostel", a wooden chapel of which he was both architect and priest. But, despite her sufferings, Katherine grew up with a deep love for the village; a fascinating story of triumph over adversity.
