""The Trachiniae of Sophocles"" is a play written by the ancient Greek tragedian Sophocles. It tells the story of Deianeira, the wife of the hero Heracles (Hercules), who fears that her husband has fallen in love with another woman. Desperate to win back his affections, she sends him a gift of a robe soaked in what she believes is a love potion. However, the potion turns out to be a deadly poison, and Heracles suffers a painful death. The play explores themes of jealousy, betrayal, and the consequences of one's actions. This edition of the play, published in 1908, includes a translation into English by F. Storr, as well as an introduction and notes on the text.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
