Publisher's Synopsis
Four astronauts return from the first manned expedition to Mars to find that a disastrous pandemic has erased eighty percent of the population and destroyed the infrastructure that supported civilization while they were gone. They have to learn to adapt to a changed world, one with different ethics and priorities, in which basic survival is difficult. Post-traumatic stress disorder is rampant, violent behavior is the norm, and living in peace seems impossible. Their first priority must be survival, but they recognize that simple continuation of life is not enough. How do they struggle for meaning in this unfamiliar world in transition?
