Freedom of Religion is one of the corner stones of our great American Republic. No sane person makes war upon another be cause of the manner in which he worships his God, however contrary one man's religion may seem to another. A man's religion is no one's business but his own.
But when any religion, no matter whose, undertakes to run a democratic government, it becomes the duty of every citizen to see that that religion is never allowed to do it.
Every patriotic American should be just as ready to prevent this, as were our ancestors who sealed with their blood the separation of Church from State, the freedom of conscience and of worship, the freedom of speech and of press, and the right of every people, to govern themselves without taking dictation from Popes and Kings.
The Roman religion, as a religion only, does not concern us at all, as long as it is nothing more than the faith of the individual.
