Katharine Ruth Ellis Barrett (1879-? ) was an American children's author. She was born in Charles City, Iowa. She married Robert Le Moyne Barrett (1871-? ) a geographer, traveller, and writer in 1913. Ellis wrote several books for children under her maiden name, including The Wide-Awake Girls series (1908- 1910). Her other works include: Girls in the High Sierras (1924), Red Shoes: Thoughts by Carlisle Ellis (1930), A Yankee in Patagonia: Edward Chace, His Thirty Years There, 1898- 1928 (with Robert Le Moyne Barrett) (1931), Cloudtop Mosaics (with Robert Le Moyne Barrett) (1932), The Trenchant Wind (1932) and Small Flora Ann: A Young Pioneer (1934).
