Theodore Roosevelt's remarkable sense of the natural world is legendary; he worked hard to preserve the natural resources of the country. As president he signed into law five national parks and created eighteen national monuments. The U.S. Forest Service was formalized under TR, in addition to 150 national forests and the first federal bird reservations and game preserves.
