Publisher's Synopsis

Hyne, and his artist friend Cecil Hayter travelled overland from Varanger Fjord in Arctic Norway to the head of the Gulf of Bothnia with the aim of observing the Sami in their own habitat. Approximately half of the distance was accomplished on foot, the rest by canoe or post cart. Through Arctic Lapland provids a first-hand account of the way of life of the inhabitants of the region and as an example of a style of travel writing that was common for the time. Charles John Cutcliffe Wright Hyne was a novelist perhaps best remembered for The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis and his Captain Kettle series which was based on a South Shields sea captain, Davey Proffit.
