Publisher's Synopsis
George du Maurier, grandfather of Daphne du Maurier, was a well-known cartoonist for Punch magazine, but his greatest achievement was the 1894 novel 'Trilby'. A tale of bohemian Paris, the novel is perhaps best known for its character Svengali, a conniving Jewish hypnotist and musician. 'Trilby' was also a direct inspiration for Gaston Leroux's 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
