HE very interesting and valuable accounts here printed relate to the Lancashire and Cheshire estates of henry DE lacy, Earl of Lincoln, ' one of the most conspicuous and powerful barons of the realm, whose in?uence on the history of the two counties Palatine was of high moment. He was Lord of the Honor of Clithe roe, Baron of Halton, and hereditary Constable of Ches ter; moreover, it was he who suggested to the monks of Stanlaw Abbey to remove into the valley of the Calder. He owned great estates in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and elsewhere; and it was in reference to him and his an cestors that Camden said that Lincolnshire glorieth in the Earls which have borne title thereof.
