Autumn 1915. A revolution is taking place in the country of Walden. The mages within its borders have been declared dangerous: a drain on society in the throes of the Great War. Magic is being strangled, if not entirely stamped out. From the capital city of Waldburg in the north to Lillian's home of Bienkorb in the south, fear and paranoia reign supreme. Two young mages, Lillian and Charlotte, flee to the safety of Walden University, the stronghold of the rebel forces. They must brave the wilderness, marauding soldiers, old gods and the long shadows that are cast from within. What they learn about magic and one another along the way cannot change one simple truth - nothing will ever be the same.
