This book is about poverty in America. All of the photos in the book were taken and edited by the author. All of the text is written by the author. The book is composed of photos taken at Shepherd Community Center over a 20 year period and from driving thousands of miles through Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and in cities Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, New York City and Indianapolis. The book is not meant to be political in any way but just the author's observations and photos that may inspire the viewer to ask "why."

Steve Archbold was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1949. He attended Ball State University and enjoyed a career in media marketing, sales and management. He lived in New York City after college and settled in Indianapolis in 1973 where he currently resides. He has been married for 24 years to Karen and has two daughters, two sons in law and two grandchildren.
