The book teases out the threads of caring, cultural difference and belonging, challenging the realities of abandonment and dogmatism. Yvonne says Odd Socks is "for the Syrian orphans", whose terrible experiences haunted and inspired her to write a book with meaning about humanity, caring and cultural difference.
