The split between manual and non-manual workers is one of the most theorized divisions of labour in capitalist society. Distinctions based on employment conditions or work relations all too often emphasize categorical differences, while closer attention to the economic, technological and managerial pressures faced by white-collar workers discussed here uncovers a common pool of both shared and distinct working experiences.;The theoretical basis of this volume considers that the processes of class relations, and not the positions they generate, should be the starting point for critical debate on white-collar workers.
