Rocked by the tragedy of her parents' sudden death in a car crash, Meg Ryan decides to move home to Bennington, Vermont, until the family house is sold. Leaving behind her job as an assistant in a Soho art gallery, she decides to concentrate on her own painting. Soon she finds a friend and mentor in Bennington College drama professor Brian Davidson. As the air outside gets colder, her heart warms in its affection for the handsome professor. When, acting on Brian's advice, Meg applies for and gets an appointment, as assistant instructor in Bennington's art department, her life seems perfect.
But in the thick of winter, her life starts unraveling and she finds herself alone with a blizzard raging outside her house and troubling questions in her heart. Can she help Brian get over the death of his beloved wife? Will she ever admit to herself that she is falling in love with him?
