Publisher's Synopsis
The Douglass family is an American Black family that pulls itself up financially as a result of unforeseen circumstances which occurred after the death of the paternal grandmother. Samuel Douglass is determined to build a legacy and protect his loved ones from what he feels are evil elements in the outside world. He breaks a cardinal rule of society by taking the life of another human being to ensure his family's future. Samuel is a driven man who stops at nothing to protect and safeguard his family. From his newly found fortune, he secures a small homestead where he can recreate what his ancestors successfully created on a larger scale many years ago to fortify hundreds of people who had been released from the bondages of slavery. He found such a utopia in a most unlikely area of southeastern Pennsylvania where his children can grow, prosper and prepare for a world outside the boundaries of their forty-acre paradise.
