Conway was an English art critic, politician, cartographer and mountaineer. He was a member of the Alpine Club and served as its president from 1902-04. This work, first published in 1898, is a continuation of the story of the exploration of the interior of Spitsbergen, begun in 1896, which was the subject of his earlier book 'The First Crossing of Spitsbergen'.
