Drawing on ten years of research on the unpublished Wittgenstein papers, Stern investigates what motivated Wittgenstein's philosophical writing and casts new light on the Tractatus and Philosophical Investigations, revealing aspects of Wittgenstein's thought that have been heretofore neglected.
