N o matter what else is left undone, we must learn to spell and pronounce com mon words correctly; we must learn how to construct sentences that obey the laws of syntax. At what point in the course may such exercises as these be introduced with profit? In most schools, it is safe to say, drill in accuracy of speech is needed every year.
