Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Work of the Committee of One Hundred on National Health
The committee adopted the policy of not attempting much direct work for improving health conditions, but rather of inducing other agencies, already existing and equipped, to do the work. It has aimed especially to enlist the services of three great agencies, the press, the insurance companies, and the government. At the outset the committee was confronted with the fact that very little information exists concerning the health of the nation as a whole. Actual facts as to deaths are available in only half of the population. Of the remainder we do not even know how many deaths occur. Before the nation can intelligently do its part of the work of disease prevention, the national aspect of diseases.
