Publisher's Synopsis

"This was our secret password which we had used for years. If he looked at a picture and liked it, Albert would say, 'Yabbadabbadoo, love?' and I would answer back the same, and then we would have a good laugh." Born in Rotherham in the 1920s, Joan's family was full of enterprising spirits. Her father sold toffees to fellow miners, while her mother made ice cream for the shop they ran from their front room. Joan herself started working at 14, before leaving to join the Air Force during the War. Her first marriage was an unhappy one, but she had a long and contented life with her second husband, Albert. Over the years, she turned her hand to a number of jobs, from running her own shop to working in a bank, supported by Albert all the way.
