Publisher's Synopsis
This report is based on a study which examined the effectiveness of Home-Start support in terms of outcomes and costs to children and their families experiencing stress. Drawing on a range of research methods, including interviews with parents in receipt of Home-Start support, the report highlights the difficulties families referred to Home-Start experience and their perceptions of the support they receive, and the impact of support from Home-Start. Young families under stress is based on one of the first studies to apply economic analysis to a family support intervention in the UK. The study is also unique in that it is comparative, looking at the experiences of and outcomes for families receiving Home-Start and similar families that are not. The report makes recommendations for future Home-Start delivery, suggesting which families might benefit most from such support, and is relevant to similar services that provide support to families with young children.
